Have you ever hit a brick wall when searching for research materials over the internet? You tried every database on the internet and nothing, thousands of websites and still nothing. Then you decided to use the public library in town, which is good that you will be able to get some research done and help. The librarian is looking for books that you requested to find on the computer. The librarian looked at you and back to the computer. Then the librarian looked at you again and you are thinking why the librarian is looking at you. You just wanted some research material for a class.
“What school do you go to?” The librarian asked.
“The university” the student replied.
“Okay” the librarian said, “I found the exact books you wanted at a another library which was much closer, until you got here”
“You did, where?” asked the excited student.
The librarian turned the monitor around, and typed a message appeared on the computer screen for the student to read it was: “See your University Library!!”
That was awkward. And embarrassing, for the student to see a message that his university has a library, and the student drove all the way in town just to do research. Awkward. Very awkward. The student wanted to bury himself into his jacket of his embarrassment.
The librarian turned to the next student and she was embarrassed too. Her message was: “See your community college library” She didn’t know that her college has a library. The librarian was rude to them and made them feel brainless. The librarian was confused why two brilliant students graduated from High School, one looked like a valedictorian from her school and the other the future politician?
I think when they have orientation to go to their university or college of their choice, the guide should mention the library is your best friend, your BFF [best friend forever]. It’s the source of information where you can get smart. Have study groups in the library. Some universities libraries opened till 2:00am for students can study for their exams or finished their paper.
Take advantage by using your university or college library. Who cares if it is old and haunted by a ghost or have mold. You not going to die when breathing bad air – well the ghost did die when breathing bad air, long time ago, before he died. Would it be funny if the librarian was dressed up as Darth Vadar and breath through his mask. You are safe and young. Just do your research, get your material you need and go back to your dorm. If a ghost follows you, tell the ghost to go away.
